General Info

Located at Unit 1/395 Peel St, Tamworth NSW 2340, Australia, Wasabi Sushi (Zaya Sushi) is a go-to spot for anyone craving fresh, satisfying Japanese cuisine in a relaxed setting. This sushi restaurant blends a casual diner vibe with a menu that feels thoughtfully curated, making it especially popular among college students and locals looking for a reliable lunch destination.

Walking in, the atmosphere is welcoming without trying too hard. The space is simple yet comfortable, and the table service adds a nice touch of ease, especially if you’re settling in for a longer meal. It’s the kind of place where you can quickly grab a bite or linger over dessert with friends. Reservations are accepted, which is handy during busy hours when the place fills up fast.

The menu offers a solid range of sushi and Japanese-inspired dishes, but a few standout items really define the experience. The Vegetable Tempura is light and crisp, with each piece coated in a delicate batter that doesn’t overwhelm the natural flavor of the vegetables. It’s a great starter to share, especially if you’re easing into the meal.

Another highlight is the Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll. Fresh, crunchy, and packed with flavor, it’s one of those items that feels both indulgent and balanced at the same time. The combination of textures makes it memorable, and it’s easy to see why it’s often mentioned in positive reviews.

For something more filling, the Teriyaki Salmon Ship is worth trying. The salmon is tender and glazed with just the right amount of sweetness, sitting neatly atop perfectly prepared rice. It’s a dish that feels comforting but still refined, making it a favorite among regulars.

Beyond the food, what stands out is how consistent everything feels. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or staying for dessert, the service remains attentive without being intrusive. The overall experience reflects a place that understands its customers-simple, flavorful dishes served in a friendly environment.

With its convenient location, approachable menu, and dependable service, Wasabi Sushi (Zaya Sushi) fits seamlessly into Tamworth’s dining scene. It’s the kind of restaurant that doesn’t need to overcomplicate things to leave a lasting impression.

What customers say?

“ We enjoyed our date night at Zaya Sushi, first sushi restaurant we’ve tried in Tamworth since moving here from Brisbane and must say the sushi was good! The belt was full of choices, the kitchen orders were delivered in about 5 mins, staff was very friendly and helpfull, came to our table approx 8 times in the hour we spent there. Other diners also looked very happy and satisfied with the food. We will definitely be back! Thanks for a pleasant experience Zaya Sushi :) ”

“ Not being a big sushi liker, the clan dragged me along, I opted for the karaage chicken which was awesome. The sushi eaters of the clan put away a few too many plates, which they assured me was 'the bomb' and 'soooo good'. I was actually eyeing off a few dishes that were happily going around in front of me. Once finished, we paid and left, service was spot on and prompt! ”
